Achilles Manawatu - Sponsorship for the Auckland Marathon
On September 18th, Achilles Manawatū will share their inspiring journey with the Milson Rotary Club. This partnership was forged through the generous donation of $500 from Milson Rotary towards their upcoming event. Achilles Manawatū is a remarkable team that supports individuals with physical and neurological disabilities, offering them the chance to participate in mainstream running events.
One of their standout members is Sharon O’Hara, who found her sense of belonging and purpose through Achilles. Having lost her sight in a car accident at 18, she struggled to find a sport where she could connect. As part of Achilles Manawatū, she's preparing to tackle the Auckland Marathon in October.
Their journey is one of resilience, support, and the pursuit of personal goals
The organisation has significantly impacted the Manawatū region, with members like Susan Evans, who reclaimed her active lifestyle after a life-altering car crash, and countless others benefiting from this community. Although Achilles has been in New Zealand for three decades, the Manawatū chapter is relatively new, founded just 18 months ago.
Their journey is one of resilience, support, and the pursuit of personal goals, and it's all made possible by groups like Milson Rotary and the dedicated members of Achilles Manawatū. They are currently working to raise $8000 to support their upcoming travel to Auckland for the marathon and other events, such as the Feilding Marathon. Additionally, they are actively seeking more guides to provide support and encouragement to athletes with disabilities, further strengthening their wonderful community.
