Charlotte Sinclair is a young lawyer at CR Law and was sponsored by the Milson Rotary Club to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) course. The 65th RYLA program was hosted by the Kapiti Coast Rotary Club. The program, held at Forest lakes, lasted five days and was packed with activities and workshops focused on leadership development.
On the first day, participants introduced themselves and reviewed the program schedule. They listened to presenters who discussed sales, leadership, and the importance of choices. The day ended with a team challenge to build structures out of newspaper.
Charlotte reflected on the valuable lessons learned and the strong connections made during the program.
The second day started with workshops, including a presentation on engaging in a cause. The group then visited a local college for a Bake Off, with the food made being donated to a local food bank. They also visited a nature reserve.
The third day was the most intense, starting with a group discussion on privilege and prejudice. Charlotte said she now understands better the importance of family culture in leadership and the importance of attitude in facing challenges.
The fourth day focused on self-care and resilience, with workshops led by the internal organisational team. The day ended with a fun filled talent show.
The final day included a Taskmaster-style challenge and a debrief before the awards ceremony and a final dance party.
Charlotte concluded by reflecting on the valuable lessons learned and the strong connections made during the program. She thanked the Milson Rotary Club for sponsoring her.
