On the 7th of August 2023, Milson Rotary hosted Marianne Poole. a true pioneer in women’s football. Marianne shared her experiences from the early days of women’s football when it faced limited recognition. Her contributions in Manawatu during the 1960s and 1970s were truly inspiring, laying the foundation for the sport’s growth.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Marianne's captivating account of her selection for the New Zealand team that triumphed in the Asian Cup held in Hong Kong in 1975. Her vivid storytelling took us on an exhilarating ride through history, celebrating the team's remarkable achievement and the groundbreaking recognition it brought to women's football.

Facing off against the original Matildas added another layer to her story
But the excitement didn't stop there! Hearing about the team's sponsored trip to Australia by Puma, where they faced off against the Original Matildas, added another layer to the story. The recognition and support shown by Puma was truly commendable and exemplified the strides that women's football has taken over the years.

This event celebrated the relentless spirit that has propelled women's football to the grand stage it commands today. Thank you, Marianne Poole, for sharing your remarkable journey with Milson Rotary.
