Sing Your Lungs Out (SYLO) is a community choir program designed for people living with chronic lung conditions like COPD and emphysema.
Overview and Purpose
• Origins: Started in 2014 as a research project to see how group singing affects respiratory health and quality of life.
• Benefits: Combines music therapy and physiotherapy to help members control their breathing, improve wellbeing, and reduce hospital visits.
• Accessibility: No previous singing experience is required, and groups are open to vulnerable individuals through a simple intake process.
•
Locations in New Zealand
• Palmerston North: Established locally by music therapist Christine Archer-Lockwood.
