One of the many community projects Milson Rotary gets stuck into (sometimes quite literally!) is supporting Hospice — and we do it with style at the Awapuni Racecourse Markets twice a year: once at Christmas and again for the Winter’s Day Out.
Our very own Mike Christie, also known as the Captain of Carparks, rallies his merry crew to manage the car parking. But Mother Nature clearly didn’t get the memo today — torrential rain, mini-lakes, and mud galore! Some drivers braved the soggy wilderness only to need a cheerful push or tow back to civilisation. Others learned the wisdom of our new technique: the legendary “Stop & Go Shuffle”, requiring 360-degree vision and possibly a sixth sense.
Despite the wild weather, spirits were high, teamwork was mighty, and the generosity of market-goers was absolutely heart-warming. Our members may have been soaked to the bone, but they still dished out smiles, directions, and parking wizardry like pros.
Huge thanks to everyone who donated and showed such kindness — you’ve helped make a difference to Hospice and made a soggy day one to remember!
