Since 2003 the Milson Rotary Club’s major fundraiser has been the Courtesy Ford Charity Golf Classic.On Sunday the 16th of April 133 players signed up in teams of four for a fun day of golf and camaraderie while generously contributing to the designated charities.
Planning for this event each year begins before Christmas to ensure the players have a fun day and want to come back the following year, and with prizes valued at over $10,000 dollars, it is no wonder that some teams have been entering for each of the last 21 years.
In the twenty-one years since this tournament started we have raised over $250,000 for local charities
All competitors are given lunch to start the day with a variety of Subway sandwiches and a Subway cookie, and further refreshments are provided on the course. The hospitality manager reported that in addition to the chilled water, soft drinks, beer and wine, a new favourite this year was the cans of gin and tonic. In addition, there are two BBQ stations, courtesy of the Mad Butcher, who has supported us for over ten years.
In addition to the core planning team, 24 Rotarians and partners were helping to run the event on the day. In the twenty-one years since this tournament started we have raised over $250,000 for local charities. Some of the recipients have been: The Food Bank, Arohanui Hospice, Youth One Stop Shop, Ronald McDonald House, Life Education Trust and the Palmerston North Surf Life Saving Club.
Several teams have supported us in each year of the 21 years since the tournament began. The day concludes with everyone gathering in the Manawatu Golf Club clubrooms for further hospitality and prizes for almost everyone from the best team Stableford, through the novelty events to the raffles.
