Bangers to Bluff

 

Roger and Mike recently participated in this year’s “Bangers to Bluff” Rally, an annual charity event organised by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay (Inc). With its vision of assessing its potential as a future fundraiser for our very own Milson Rotary, this event offered them an opportunity they couldn’t resist. And what an adventure it turned out to be!

The “Bangers to Bluff” Rally presents a unique chance to traverse the picturesque landscapes of Aotearoa, travelling from Auckland to Bluff alongside a small group of like-minded adventurers. The rally carefully curates routes that lead participants through awe-inspiring vistas, creating memories that last a lifetime. But as Roger and Mike discovered, this journey was more than just a scenic exploration; it tested their resilience and determination.

 

Little did they know that their first car wouldn’t even make it to the starting point as they set out on their journey! A collision with a road sign in the South Island added an unexpected twist to their adventure. But that didn’t deter them. They pushed forward, undeterred by the setbacks, showing the true spirit of Rotary.

 

And that was not the end of their challenges. Crossing the Danseys Pass bridge when it was meant to be closed further tested their mettle. Undeterred by barriers, they persevered, determined to complete this incredible rally.

 

But the challenges didn’t stop there. Navigation errors led to endless delays, making their journey even more challenging. However, Roger and Mike’s indomitable spirit carried them through each hurdle they faced. They stayed focused, adapted, and found a way to overcome every obstacle that came their way.

 

And let’s not forget Roger’s quick trip home for some much-needed home comforts. Even in the midst of this exciting adventure, he found a way to connect with his roots and gather the strength to continue.

 

Roger Kennedy and Mike Christie returned home triumphant and inspired. They stood before us on Monday as living examples of adventurous spirits and dedicated community servants. They have experienced the thrill of this rally and evaluated its potential as a future fundraising opportunity for our Milson Rotary Club.
