Celebrating Allan Lee

What a wonderful evening it was last night, with 28 people joining us to celebrate Allan Lee’s 90th birthday. It was a fabulous turnout, and Alan and Karen truly appreciated everyone being there. Although Allan’s birthday is not until 17 July, with their upcoming move to Auckland, we did not want to miss the opportunity to mark this special milestone together.  Hope you enjoyed the cake.

Club updates
Plenty is happening for the club at the moment. The Boatshed will be unavailable for the next six weeks or so while PNCC undertakes renovations, so we will be moving around a little during this time. Please keep a close eye on the bulletin for venue updates.

Next meeting: Hilltop
Our next meeting will be held at Hilltop on Monday, 20 July 2026. Please arrive from 5.30 pm to get a drink, and if you'd like, order a meal from the menu, which has a variety of options and prices. The meeting will begin at 6.00 pm in a private room, and at 7.00 pm we will move through to enjoy dinner together. Having a meal is entirely optional.

Shout-outs and thanks
I would also like to acknowledge a few people. Anthony, thank you for your fantastic organisation in getting 1,000 trees planted with your willing band of helpers—an excellent effort in somewhat challenging weather conditions. Susie and Micaela, thank you for bringing us such interesting speakers. Bobbie O’Fee was fabulous last night, and I learned so much about CEDA and our community.

Finally, thank you to all our members who continue to turn out for community service and provide extra support whenever it is needed. Not once this year has anyone said no when asked to do a little something extra. I truly appreciate it—you are an amazing club.

A new adventure
So, team, we will see you at Hilltop on Monday, 20 July 2026, from 5.30 pm for our new adventure. We will let you know where the following meeting will be held once details are confirmed.

Quiz night and August meetings
The Quiz Night will be deferred until we are back at the Boatshed, as it will be much easier logistically. Please also note that in August we will have only two meetings, on 3 August and 17 August. There will be no meeting on 31 August, so you can enjoy a night off.

Have a great week.

Steven Deans, New Zealand U23 Men's Softball Coach
Jul 20, 2026
5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

We're thrilled to welcome Steve Deans to the Milson Rotary Club on Monday, 20 July. Steve is the head coach of the New Zealand U-23 Men's National Softball Team, a role he returned to after guiding the squad at the WBSC U-23 Men's Softball World Cup in Parana, Argentina, where New Zealand finished sixth in the inaugural edition of the event

Steve brings a remarkable depth of softball knowledge to the role. He has more than two decades of coaching experience across senior club, provincial and national levels. He is also the current assistant coach of the Black Sox, our hugely successful senior men's side. That connection gives the U-23 programme a direct line into one of the most respected softball setups in the world, and with the next U-23 Men's Softball World Cup scheduled for 2026, it's a busy and exciting time to be leading the next generation of players.

PARTING THOUGHT - JOHN MORRISON

Service begins with noticing. Kindness begins with acting. When we do both, we change more than lives – we change the tone of our whole community”
